Diseases Similar to Fibromyalgia
There are a handful of diseases similar to Fibromyalgia with which it is often confused. Myofascial pain, for example, is not synonymous with Fibromyalgia, but to make matters more complicated, it can be a symptom of the syndrome. What defines Myofascial pain is that it is based on “trigger points,” palpable nodules of muscle tissue that radiate pain even when not touched. To further confuse diagnosis, Fibromyalgia symptoms may mimic anything from hypothyroidism to lupus to multiple sclerosis. The disorder most commonly confused with Fibromyalgia Syndrome is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which is discussed elsewhere on this site.
