Depression

Clinical depression, such as that which often accompanies Fibromyalgia Syndrome, is more than just a passing feeling of sadness. It represents prolonged feelings of severe fatigue, hopelessness, loss of appetite, loss of interest in hobbies and entertainment, even suicidal thoughts. When diagnosed by itself, depression is often associated with a chemical imbalance such as a deficiency in the neurotransmitter serotonin. The depression associated with Fibromyalgia, however, may be brought on not only by reduced serotonin levels but also by the feelings of helplessness sufferers naturally experience when they are told that their pain and exhaustion is “all in their head.”

Fibromyalgia Treatments

Fibromyalgia treatments are as varied as the symptoms they address. Because the disease affects the body and mind on many levels, Fibromyalgia treatments must provide a wide spectrum of effects. An effective course of therapy might include such strategies as exercise programs, heat therapy, chiropractic treatment, herbs and nutrition, and other Fibromyalgia treatments.
