Sleep Disorders

Fibromyalgia Syndrome and sleep disorders are intimately related, but no one is certain which causes the other. Many Fibromyalgia sufferers exhibit an “alpha-EEG anomaly,” meaning a constant interruption of deep (delta-wave) sleep by bursts of near-waking (alpha-wave) brain activity. This notably reduces the production of growth hormone, which is important for healing. Other sleep disorders associated with Fibromyalgia include Restless Leg Syndrome, Obstructed Sleep Apnea, tooth-grinding, and spasmodic jerks of the leg and foot. Some sleep disorders can be treated by exercise, the reduction of caffeine intake, and/or the purchase of a mattress that reduces pressure points on the body.

Fibromyalgia Treatments

Fibromyalgia treatments are as varied as the symptoms they address. Because the disease affects the body and mind on many levels, Fibromyalgia treatments must provide a wide spectrum of effects. An effective course of therapy might include such strategies as exercise programs, heat therapy, chiropractic treatment, herbs and nutrition, and other Fibromyalgia treatments.
